Vivien Murray is a 5th generation Australian - born in Sydney during the post-war baby boom. She went to school in Sydney, culminating in the Leaving Certificate in 1964. She graduated as a General Nursing Sister in 1969 and then travelled to Europe working in London for six months and then spent twelve months working on a Greek passenger liner cruising around the world. She returned to Australia, trained as a midwife, worked at sea again, worked in a Kibbutz in Israel, worked at sea again and then worked passage home to Australia, where she worked as a Labour Ward Sister.
She married in 1974, and worked as a theatre sister in Tasmania. She then came to Ireland and worked as a theatre sister in Nenagh, Co. Tipperary. She has lived in Sligo since 1975 where she has reared a family. She studied and taught yoga until 1994.
