John Cullinan
John Cullinan has never known life without Art. He was born in 1947 and it was always his ambition to enter the art world. He studied in the Limerick school of art under the guidance of Jack Donovan for whom he has a lifelong regard. He graduated with honours from Limerick School of Art at a time when the school was producing such illustrious names as Mick Fitzharris, John Shinnors, Tom Fitzgerald, Sam Walsh and Ursula Brick. Following graduation he spent two years teaching in the School on Art.He later studied under the American artist Paul Brooks and Michael Dempsey.
John then moved to West Clare and spent the next eight years there.
He has always felt his time in West Clare enhanced his appreciation of nature and landscape.
Following a move to Waterford John spent a number of years teaching art in De La Salle College but ill health intervened and he did not paint for some time. He retired in 1998 and some time after returned to painting and has been painting steadily since 2000. He has his own studio where he paints with fellow artists. He is a founder member of the Waterford Life Art Group and also a member of Tramore Live Art. His profile has rapidly expanded since then and he has been exhibiting very successfully, culminating in a sell our solo exhibition in Market House Art Centre, Dungarvan in June 2006.
