There have been great changes for me in the last two years, - not the least of which is the addition to our family of Donovan Conor.
Motherhood has brought with it many blessings as well as trials and tribulations. Through these my work has grown too. I have a greater sense of purpose as I realise how precious time for my painting is - something I always took for granted.
I have been given the ideal opportunity to experience depth of emotions - and practice in expressing them! Donovan has put me much more in touch with my instincts - you cannot hesitate, when your child needs you, you act instantly. I find I also no longer hesitate in my work - when I have something to say, I say it!
So, having a baby has not finished, or even slowed down my career, it has instead brought me to a new level. I feel I have achieved something in this exhibition. It is a cohesive show, a reflection of how much more "together" I am since Donovan. I am very happy living more "in the moment" and this is reflected in a greater flexibility of approach enabling me to put much of the feeling I use in my abstract paintings into the textures of the squishy mud horses race through or the luscious grass on the side of the track.
I am grateful too for the time spent last year travelling and working with Channel 4 as art expert for Watercolour Challenge, it was great fun and broadened my horizons, but nothing really compares to the experiences I have had with Donovan.
