"When we first came to Connemara, I didn't want to come; but now I do not want to leave; it has eaten into my soul. I have always loved space - The Fens of Ely, Cambridgeshire and the moors of Northumberland. But the bogs here in Connemara are different, they are special as they have a timeless quality - a place where spirits seem to dwell and with the mist, rise to the mountaintops. A bit far-fetched you might say, but when I turn on to the road I feel 'at home". The silence reaches out to me and the wildness can be listened to. And though there is a timelessness, the mood and seasons are constantly changing. You could paint from the same place day after day, and it would never be the same, as the colour changes with the moment."
