"In "Origins" I am trying to find a way to express primal experiences. Images that are familiar and emerge out of the unconscious remind us of our human existence as "flesh and bone".
This is an attempt to recall intuitive information which is often forgotten and gets overlayed by history and conditioning in society. It is attempt to find identity not through culture but within the nature of myself.
A feminine gaze is intended and hopefully reflected in the work. The work has developed from the open spaces of the Flaggy Shore (New Quay) and the woods of Coole (Gort)".

"I find bog wood inspiring in itself. The idea of working with a substance that's thousands of years old is quite something. There's an unquestionable "mystic" quality about it, and I do find as I carve that this ancient quality that belongs to Ireland comes through.
I work along with the "suggestions" provided by the particular piece of wood. Obviously this particular shape, and the way it sweeps out in two opposed directions, suggests a bird-like shape. But often it's only when I began to work a piece, with maybe only a very vague idea in mind, that a shape emerges that seems to "ask" for a particular treatment. It's like freeing something that's been waiting there for maybe thousands of years".
