Helen Kerr RUA
Helen Kerr was trained at Belfast College of Art, Brighton College of Art and Goldsmiths College, London. She taught at various schools in Belfast until leaving to work full-time in the Lodge Studio, Dundrum. Her work is in the medium of Batik and Stitch, and is mostly landscape based, attempting in a not totally realistic way to capture the mood or essence of landscape.Her exhibitions include both one person and group shows in Ireland and England. She is represented in the collections of UTV, the Irish Self Portrait Collection in Limerick and many private collections.
From 1970 - 1987 she acted as Head of Art Department, Bloomfield Collegiate School, Belfast and was a founder member of the Octagon Gallery, Belfast, 1971. 1977 saw a fellowship in Creative Embroidery at the University of Ulster while in 1978 she was the subject of a programme in the series 'Portrait of the Artist' made by Ulster Television. Between 1981-1982 she completed a Diploma in Embroidery in Textiles at Goldsmiths College London.
She has been working full-time in the Lodge Studio, Dundrum, since 1987.
'Wave Dancer', 'Mermaid's Wardrobe', and 'Sea Fence' are from an ongoing series 'Tide Lines' based on the ever changing area of beach between high and low tides.' 'Bracken Fires' and 'Land Below the Wind' are a response to Autumn walks in the Mourne Mountains.
