Doreen Kennedy

Doreen Kennedy was born in Dublin 1968. She graduated from the College of Marketing and Design in 1989 and continues to work in both photography and design. Previous group exhibitions have included: Cead in China, 411 Galleries, Shanghai; Holga Group Show, Monster Truck Gallery, Dublin; Projected Weekends, The Digital Hub, Dublin; River Walk Show, Project 06, Galway. Solo exhibitions have included Sea Area Forecast, Bank of Ireland Arts Centre, Dublin and Performance, Olympia Theatre Dublin. For the last three years she has been developing a photography installation ‘1,000 Flowers’ at the Electric Picnic Festival. Her work has been published in Stinging Fly, West 47 and Platforms Magazine.

Re:location is a photographic documentation of the Aran Islands.

Creating the photomontages, individual images are captured digitally from a location. Then using new media technology, they’re stitched together in overlapping layers. The final montage is printed as a single c-type photographic print to recreate the location in a 2-dimensional format. The intention is to record the experience of being in a particular location and the images provide a reaction to its environment. The detail images are a series of notes describing nostalgic memories of the location.
