Willie Heron
Willie Heron began his career as an apprentice draughtsman in Harland & Wolf. He studied at Ulster Polytechnic, Belfast and in Wolverhampton. He held his first solo show in 1982. His work has featured in many group exhibitions, and he has received numerous awards.'I have been working for the past several years as a workshop technician at the College of Art, University of Ulster, York Street, Belfast. Showing my art work on a regular basis at the Fenderesky Gallery in Belfast, producing various series of objects and showing them in an installation type format. Recently using found objects and offcuts of wood, making semi-abstract pieces.
A great inspiration for my work has been the several trips that my wife Betty Brown and I have made to work at the Ballinglen Arts Center in Ballycastle, Co. Mayo. Last year I began to learn some printmaker techniques at the Seacourt Print Workshop in Bangor, Co. Down.
I am enjoying enjoying this very much and some of the resulting prints are what I am showing on this occasion.'
