James Coonan
James Coonan was born in Dublin in 1970. He is self taught and specialises in still life paintings. He started his career as an engineer and later worked in Export Sales and Marketing which allowed him to live and travel extensively abroad.
Some years ago he returned to Ireland to pursue his dream of becoming a full time artist. His paintings in preference to contemporary art trends reflect more the values of the old masters. He paints the often every day things that touch our lives, in the hope of capturing and conveying their fleeting beauty. His work reflects his fascination with light and colour, especially how light flows, reveals hides and describes form.
Over the last eight years, James has exhibited in many group exhibitions including the Kilcock Art Gallery, Kilcock; the Leinster Gallery, Dublin; Tuckmill Gallery, Naas; Inniscara Gallery, Rathcoole; at the Royal Dublin Society (R.D.S) and at the Wexford Opera Festival, Lee Gallery, Cork, Cherrylane Gallery, Dublin, His paintings are exhibited in a number of leading galleries and are held in private collections at home and abroad.
